Resources the Island and Center Map Do Not Have

Resources the Island and Center Map Do Not Have

The Island Map is the original, official story Ark map of Ark Survival Evolved.  The Center Map came next but is not part of the Ark lore.  Every resource and animal for that matter,  introduced after these two maps does not exist on these maps.  Scorched Earth introduced sulfur, salt, oil veins, and cactus sap to the Ark world, but they never ended up on the Island Map nor the Center Map. The same goes for everything introduced in dlc maps later.  Unfortunately, that means you will not be able to craft many of the items in the game without visiting other maps, or spawning those resources in.  The below list of missing resources from the Island and Center, does not include drops, such as deathworm horns, which are only used as tributes for boss fights, some other map-specific things like taming Mantis.  There are dozens of creatures not found on these maps, and I’ll cover those in a later post.

Resources not found on the Island Map or Center Map

  • Salt
  • Sulfur
  • Cactus Sap
  • Silk
  • Sand
  • Oil Veins
  • Gems
  • Gas Vents
  • Gas Bag
  • Gas Ball
  • Fungal Wood
  • Mushrooms (other than rare mushrooms)
  • Primal Crystal

Silica Pearl Locations on the Island Map

Silica Pearls are found all around the bottom of the cliff that circles the coast of The Island map.  There are two minor exceptions seen as X in the image below.  Most silica pearls are found in the Northwest corner of the map.  There is only one interior location where you can find the silica pearls, and that is a bend in the river at the southern edge of the snow biome, located about Lat 31.1  Lon 33.2.  If you are looking for black pearls shells, there are none on The Island, they can only be harvested from creatures.

X indicates the absence of Silica Pearls.  The circle at NW corner is where they are most abundant.

Jousting with the Lance in Ark Survival Evolved

Using a lance to joust another player is awkward in Ark Survival Evolved, and least for me.  It is a lot of fun, but perhaps not worth learning the engram and crafting them, since they are a little resource-heavy.  In my experience, the lance only does about 2 damage to wild creatures, so it has little if any function other than jousting in Ark. Obviously, they are useless in single player other than they look cool when used by a mantis or to grind them for resources in the industrial grinder.

How to use a Lance on PC

While riding on the back of suitable tame like and Equis, Thyla, or even a griffin, draw your lance.  Now use WASD to control the direction of your animal.  Hold the left mouse button down to drop your lance.  This will use your survivor's stamina, whether you are moving or not.  Now run toward your opponent using your mouse to aim the lance.  Hopefully, it will hit them and knock them off.  That is all there is to jousting in Ark, at least on PC.

Ragnarok Kairuku Location - Ark Penguins

On the Ragnarok map of Ark Survival Evolved, there is only one place you can find Kairuku (Penguins).  The Kairuku spawn has plenty of penguins for harvesting organic polymer.  It isn't all that dangerous of a spot, but there are some creatures that spawn there.  If they are too tough, you can try leading them off of the cliff.

Giga Spawn Locations on The Island Map - Ark Giganotosaurus

Giganotosaurus (Gigas) and Carcharodontosaurus spawn on the tops of sides of mountains in the northern part of The Island map of Ark Survival Evolved.  There are usually only one of two gigas spawning at any time, and they can wander a good distance from the mountain side down into the forests below, so it might take a while to find them.

The Center Kiaruku Locations - Ark Penguins

On The Center Map of Ark, there are three spawns where you can find the Kairuku (Penguins).  Three penguin locations are in the two snowy mountains, and the Snow Grasslands, see coordinates below.

The Kairuku of Ark Survival Evolved are cute creatures that yeild a lot of organic polymer when harvested.  They are best harvested with a club or sword, but anything that harvests meat can be used.  If you need to make your own polymer, you will need obsidian, and that is only found in a few places on the Center map.

Ark Sweet Vegetable Cake

The sweet vegetable cake in Ark Survival Evolved is required to tame and feed some of the games animals and is used to heal herbivores.

How to Craft Sweet Vegetable Cakes

You will need to make sweet vegetable cakes in the cooking pot, or the industrial cooker.  You do not need to unlock an engram to make the cakes, just put all the ingredients in the cooker needed to make it.

Resources to craft sweet vegetable cakes

  • 2 Giant Bee Honey
  • 4 Sap
  • 2 Rockarrot
  • 2 Longrass
  • 2 Savoroot
  • 4 Stimulant
  • 25 Fiber
  • 1 water

Cakes for taming

Sweet vegetable cakes are required to passively tame ovis (sheep).  After they are tamed, they will eat any other vegetarian food. The cakes are also required to tame achatina (snail) in Ark.  The achatina will only eat veggie cakes after they are tame, which makes keeping them difficult.

Cakes for healing

Unlike carnivores, which can be force-feed any meat (other than spoiled) to heal, herbivores can only be feed sweet vegetable cakes to get a health boost.  The boost they get is very significant (500 HP), but there is a cool-down timer of 30 seconds between use.  Still, the cakes are a good thing to have around when you take a herbie into battle.

Beaver Dam Locations on the Island Map - Ark Survival Evolved

There are five locations on the Island Map where you can find the location of Beaver Dams and of course giant beavers.  Inside the beaver dams, you will usually find cementing paste, silica pearls, rare flowers, rare mushrooms, and wood.  This makes the dams a very important resource on the Island Map, and any map the castorodies spawns.

Island Map Beaver Dam Locations

  • Lat     Lon
  • 73.1   42.9
  • 81.3   58.8
  • 54.2   29.8
  • 42.3   67.8
  • 47.9   62.6
Make sure to break the beaver dams by emptying all the resources out of them, even if you don't need them.  If you only take out the cementing paste, for instance, it will never spawn back into the dam.  The is important to you and courtesy to others on a server.

Kairuku Locations the Island Map Ark Survival Evolved Organic Polymer

The Kairuku, or penguins in Ark Survival Evolved are the best way to get organic polymer in the game.  Luckily Kairuku are very plentiful on the Island map.  Organic polymer is much easier to harvest than it is to make regular polymer, but only stacks to 20 and also spoils.

All the Kairuku are found in the Northwest corner of the Island map, in the arctic biome, which seems like a logical place to find penguins.  You will find the most penguins and the safest place to harvest the organic polymer on the iceberg island offshore.  The shoreline can be easily accessed on foot, if you can deal with the many nasty creatures there.  If you have a flier with good weight, it is much better to get some organic poly there and maybe some oil too, which is plentiful.

Hesperornis also yield organic polymer, and can be found almost anywhere on the Island map there is water, but here are two of my favorite locations.

Organic polymer in Ark Survival Evolved

Organic Polymer Ark
Organic Polymer

Organic polymer
in Ark Survival Evolved is a resource that is harvested from certain creatures on the Ark.
Organic polymer is much easier to craft than it is to make regular polymer from obsidian and cementing paste, at least in my opinion.  Organic poly can be substituted for any regular polymer for crafting.  Polymer is required for many, if not most high-end items in Ark.

There are two major problems with organic polymer.  The first is that it only stacks to 20, whereas regular polymer stacks to 100.  This won’t be a problem with any vanilla recipes that I can think of, but you may run out of inventory slots in the fabricator for instance to craft items from high-end blueprints.  The second problem is that it spoils in 30 minutes.  You can double the spoil time of organic polymer by putting it in a refrigerator

Ark Organic Polymer Harvest
Organic Polymer is best harvested with a club or sword in Ark.

You will harvest more organic poly with a club than any weapon, but anything you can harvest meat with will work. Kairuku (Penguins) are one of the best creatures to harvest organic polymer from, and Moscops are the best dino for harvesting polymer from the Kairuku  Penguins are not available on all maps though.

The following creatures can be harvested for organic polymer.

  • Kairuku (Penguins)
  • Hesperonis
  • Mantis
  • Karkinos (crabs)
  • Deathworms (as loot)

Don’t eat organic polymer, unless you need to respawn for some reason.  It is poisonous and you will lose 500 health instantly.

Slomo Console Command - Ark Survival Evolved Cheats

Do you have a need, or maybe it is more like a desire to speed up your game or slow it down?  I am talking about making the entire Ark Survival Evolved game like it is on speed, or as slow as when you first wake up in the morning.

The console command is

slowmo " "

Do not enter the quotes, but where they would be, enter a multiplier number.  Enter a number above one to speed up, and below one to slowdown.  CAUTION speeding up the game too much can lead to the game freezing and also you can die really quick by drowning, or getting attacked by a raptor, since they can bite you 20 times per second, depending on the setting.

The Slingshot in Ark Survival Evolved

The humble slingshot is an amazing tool before you learn the engram for bows and arrows in Ark Survival Evolved.  The slingshot is good at knocking out low tier animals on the Ark which can then be tamed

To use a slingshot, and bow for that matter, you need to pull back the rubber band and then let it loose.  The amount you pull back affects how much damage the stone will do. It will take you longer to hold down to full power, but it is the best way to deal the most damage per second for the slingshot.  If you hold back too long the slingshot becomes unsteady and it is more difficult to be accurate with it.

Ark Slingshot

While the slingshot is easy to craft and repair, it does break with little use, so it is best to keep at least two in your hot bar when taming something like a triceratops.  Always pick low-level creatures when taming with a slingshot or club.  High-level ones seem to die more often, and it will take a lot of stones, and slingshots.  The added weight makes it hard to escape the wild creatures or chase them down when they torpor run.

The slingshot is best when used in combination with a bola.  The bola will hold parasaurs, pteranodons, and raptors while you knock them out.  Obviously, you want a very low-level raptor if you are at a level when you are stuck with a slingshot.  If slingshots did not disappear after you dropped them from your inventory the beaches of old Ark servers would be littered with them like beachgoers on a holiday weekend.
